Distinguished TA Awards

At the end of the academic year, the Center for Teaching Excellence, the Dean for Undergraduate Studies, and the Dean of the Graduate School recognize outstanding graduate teaching assistants at the University of Maryland . A May reception is hosted in their honor at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, and each is presented with a certificate recognizing his or her contributions as a Distinguished Teaching Assistant.

At the beginning of the spring semester, Distinguished Teaching Assistants are selected by department chairpersons. Because this award is meant to honor the most outstanding teaching assistants, CTE asks that only the top ten percent of all teaching assistants within a department be identified as Distinguished Teaching Assistants. Specific nomination criteria are at the discretion of the individual department.

Nomination forms are sent to all department chairs by CTE in March and are generally due back to CTE in April. If you have any questions, please contact CTE's Coordinator of Graduate Student Programs at (301) 314-1283.
