Teaching Resource Guide – A compilation of campus policies and resources maintained by the Center for Teaching Excellence

Terp Impact
The Committee on Civic Engagement and Leadership website catalogs ways for faculty and teaching assistants to make civic engagement part of their courses. Terp Impact includes student blogs on civic engagement, campus programs, and (as of spring 2008), a resource guide to course plans and off-campus contacts for civic engagement curricula.

Clickers
Clickers, which resemble miniature remote controls, transmit student responses to a central device which in turn records those responses and displays findings, often in graphs that indicate how many students selected each possible answer. Because teachers are immediately aware of whether or not students understand a concept, they are able to devote their attention accordingly. Vastly more effective than asking for a show of hands (e.g., “Does everyone understand?”), clickers create a venue for each student to demonstrate comprehension on the spot. Click here to find out more about clickers.

CTE Newsletter
Twice each semester, CTE publishes a newsletter titled, Teaching & Learning News. The newsletter includes teaching tips, workshop reviews, editorials and articles on issues related to teaching and learning. Visitors may browse current and archived issues.

Book & Video Lending Library
The CTE Lending Library includes books and videos as well as additional printed materials on issues related to teaching and learning. The University community is welcome to browse our lending library in the CTE office. To view the list of books available, click here.

Teaching Large Classes
Teachers will find these Large Classes resources extremely helpful as they face the challenge of creating productive learning environments in large classes. The resources include the “Large Classes: Teaching Guide” which offers information on topics such as leading large group discussions, integrating collaborative learning, providing feedback to students, and more. Additionally, visitors may browse an annotated compilation of helpful internet sites.

Mid-point Evaluations
Mid-point evaluations are a valuable resource for assessing student learning during the semester. Visitors may browse and download sample mid-point evaluations forms to use in the classroom.

The Teaching Folio – A compilation of one-page reviews of teaching-related topics such as syllabus construction, diversity, lecturing and more

Reading Packets from Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD Network) – A compilation of resource articles devoted to teaching and learning and maintained by CTE

The Faculty Handbook for Service Learning – A compilation of practical tools for integrating service learning maintained by the Coordinator of Service Learning

Annual Instructional Policies & Guidelines for Faculty - A compilation of University's policies, procedures, and resources related to teaching, advising and mentoring, published by the Office of the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs
