The Undergraduate Service Learning Teaching Assistant Program
UTA-SL -- The Undergraduate Service Learning Teaching Assistant Program, a component of the UTA Program that focuses on the combination of community service with academic coursework

Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning with New(er) Technologies
This hands-on institute is offered for members of the faculty who want to increase student learning through pedagogies that implement new(er) technologies. Faculty who would like to have dedicated time, support, direction, and feedback as they increase student learning with these pedagogies are invited to apply. Faculty participants will benefit from feedback, guidance and colleagues’ experience as they develop ways to make new(er) technologies part of their pedagogy. The institute will help faculty address specific challenges—and meet specific learning outcomes—in their classrooms.

Teaching with Technology:
The Institute for Instructional Technology (IIT) is a faculty-centered initiative co-sponsored by the Office of Information Technology and the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Maryland. The IIT provides faculty who are interested in implementing technology into their courses with interactive skills training that focuses on a variety of technological applications.

Faculty Teaching Consultation:
Faculty Teaching Consultation is designed to help provide support for those who would like to improve their teaching. Teaching consultants work one-on-one with teachers based on their own goals. The requesting teacher determines the issues to be explored, and the consultant provides an outside perspective, peer support for a plan of action, and suggestions for additional resources. Contact the Center for Teaching Excellence at (301)405-9356 or cte@umd.edu for details.

CTE-Lilly Fellows Program:
The CTE-Faculty Lilly Program has for more than twenty years provided opportunities for faculty to form lasting cohorts among colleagues from across campus as they address critical issues in teaching and learning at the University of Maryland. Many of the Lilly projects have had lasting impact on undergraduate education and the culture of teaching and learning on campus. The 2011-12 CTE- Faculty Lilly’s are working on facilitating implementation of the New Scholarship in Practice General Education requirement.Read More

New Faculty Orientation
At the end of each August, the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs holds an orientation for new university faculty. The program is for all new faculty (all ranks of professors, lecturers, research faculty, extension agents, visiting faculty) who have begun at the university in the past twelve months.

In the weeks following the New Faculty Orientation Program, CTE hosts a New Faculty Workshop, part of its workshop series, as a venue to discuss issues and challenges related to teaching.

Check out the details about Faculty Affairs programs here, or contact the Director of Faculty Mentoring and Development, Rhonda J. Malone at (301) 405-2509 or via e-mail at rmalone@deans.umd.edu
