Innovation and entrepreneurship are at the forefront of university, regional, and even national agendas and priorities. There are some known and established processes for teaching innovation and/or entrepreneurship, and these processes often encourage things that seem somewhat counter to academic culture: learning in diverse and multi-disciplinary teams; risk-taking; and encouraging failing fast and failing often but gaining insights from those failures in order to get to transformational successes. How do you teach innovation in an undergraduate academic environment? How do you structure learning outcomes that encourage things like risk-taking, multi-disciplinary learning, and embracing failure? How do you teach skills that support innovation to undergraduate students in all majors from the humanities, to the social sciences, to STEM disciplines, to business and health? How do you evaluate student learning outcomes related to innovation across the range of academic disciplines?
The 2013-14 Faculty Lilly Fellows will join an elite group of campus leaders who have helped to define and shape the academic culture of the University for more than two decades. The Faculty Lilly Fellowship provides faculty an enriching opportunity to spend a year interacting with colleagues from various disciplines in a faculty learning community, which serves to support individual faculty as well as the campus's academic culture. Faculty Lilly alumni report that they were enriched by the opportunity to be part of a faculty learning community whose members were from different ranks, disciplines and career stages. Please consider applying to be part of the 2013-14 Faculty Lilly Fellows Program: How Does One Teach Innovation In All Disciplines. The 2013-14 Faculty Lilly Fellows Program will be the 23th cohort of Faculty Lilly Fellows and is open to all full-time UM faculty, regardless of rank or career stage.
Faculty-Lilly alumni whose cohort year was prior to the 2006-2007 academic year may apply as a senior Faculty Lilly Fellow. The selection committee will consider your reasons for seeking to be part of the Faculty Lilly Fellows community, evidence of commitment to improving undergraduate education and your interest in the new general education program. In order to engage actively in a year-long dialogue, Faculty Lilly Teaching Fellows must be on campus for the full academic year and must be committed to playing an active role in the Faculty Lilly learning community (see details below). Faculty participants will receive $4,000 in recognition of their contributions to improving undergraduate learning. Faculty have the option of using these funds for salary or professional activities related to teaching and learning.

The 2013-2014 CTE-Lilly Fellows will meet regularly during the academic year to address these important questions and in doing so will
work with the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to develop best practices for teaching
innovation throughout the campus. Dean Chang, Associate Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship will be a regular participant.
