Facilitating and Measuring Critical Thinking

A workshop facilitated by:
Sharon La Voy, Office of Institutional Research and Planning & CTE Staff

Few terms are deployed so often in higher education as “critical thinking,” and there are many ways to encourage, identify, and evaluate this skill. Critical thinking is one of the CORE student learning outcomes required of all students at Maryland. How can we measure the success of our students’ efforts to achieve this goal? Come to the CTE workshop. Hear about recent campus work to assess student critical thinking and engage in conversations on ways to facilitate critical thinking. Sharon La Voy from the Office of Institutional Research and Planning (OIRP) will talk about the campus’s pilot project to assess students’ critical thinking in CORE courses. Faculty will have the opportunity to evaluate sample student work using a rubric to measure critical thinking.

Monday, March 13
2:00-3:30
Maryland Room, Marie Mount Hall
